Yehi Leratzon: Our Name in the Torah

Yehi Leratzon: Our Name in the Torah

One way of understanding the word Yisroel/Israel, is as an acronym of the Hebrew phrase yesh shisim ribo osyos la’torah, meaning “there are six hundred thousand letters in the Torah.” (Megale Amukas) Each Jewish soul has a letter in the Torah with which it is connected. In addition, each one of us has a particular verse in the Torah that is connected with our name since our name reveals who we are and expresses our essence, our deepest identity. This particular verse begins with the first letter of our name and ends with the last.

Recalling our particular verse ensures that we remember our identity in this life and in the next, for now and for all eternity.
